Last spring, in an effort to get back into shape I began training for an “orienteering” race, where you go into the middle of a mountain range and find flags using only a printed topographic map and magnetic compass. I felt comfortable with learning the navigation because it is how I trained to become a private pilot, navigating using printed maps, a compass, and my eyes. I was feeling out of shape and excited for a new adventure, and then I started training. The guys I trained and raced with got into this adventure trekking because they were bored doing Ironman races, so I knew I was in for a significant challenge.

Expecting a healthy pause along the adventure.
