While early in-person and mail-in voting has been taking place across the US for weeks, polls across the country will begin to close Tuesday night after which time officials will begin tabulating results. The primary focus will be on the presidential race, where a candidate must earn at least 270 electoral votes (out of a total of 538) in order to emerge victorious. In addition, all seats in the House of Representatives will be contested (Democrats are expected to hold or increase their majority), as will about a third of Senate seats. There are thoughts Democrats may be able to regain a majority in the Senate, though polls in many races remain very close.
