The S&P 500 (SPX) spent much of the session trading in and out of positive territory before a late day push drove the SPX to highest level of the day. The SPX closed up 0.29%, to a new closing high, although it was just shy of surpassing the intraday high set yesterday. Volatility dropped, the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) declined 8% and closed with a 12 handle for the first time since early May.
